During the last decade there has been a substantial progress
in the analysis of adaptive finite element methods. This
includes a posteriori error estimation as well as the analysis
of convergence and optimality of the adaptive algorithm. At
the same time, adaptive methods have become more and more
popular in applications to meet the demand of solving
increasingly complex problems.
The objective of the workshop is to stimulate the discussion
between analysis and application and to initiate an exchange
of ideas and requirements between the two branches.
